The failed cases of our experiment...maybe some passed

Andrea:
"No way. I can't live without Twitter. And I also need the blogs and YouTube for my daily dose of THE GAZETTE! *3*"
Andrea is addicted. Therefore she failed the experiment~ She couldn't stand one minute knowing that her social media sites are not accessible.

Caryl:

"Well unless Demi Lovato is on a tweeting spree yeah I can stand it. It's just for one day, right?"
Mildly addicted. :)

Jamie:

"Eh heh I forgot about it. I just automatically checked my Twitter when I woke up. Sort of a habit now. It kind of became a part of my life. (And I can't live without YouTube too seriously)"
Definitely addicted. But not so serious. I won't kill my mom because she doesn't let me go on Twitter. I'll just..be sad.

Enya:

"I don't use social networking sites."
Not addicted.

Definition of addiction: describes an activity or food that you cannot stop doing or eating once you have started. In other words, you become obsessed (which is not good).

Here is an article by Tom Jarvis and it was published in an issue of O, The Oprah Magazine. :)

Personally, although social networking sites have positive impacts, I think the negative impacts override them. Nanananana~

Social Media -thoughts

In the 21st century, social media has become so commonly used it seems like it is essential's for the current working class' survivial. Most communiation used now of days is using social media. Even keeping in touch with family members now in common using facebook as we do not have the kampong life the previous generations used to have, where everyone stays near their family members. Now,  these social media platforms has been a vital arena for business and business products too.

A good example is social media is this:  In 2010, Haiti experienced severe calamity through an earthquake. This earthquake resulted in official communications down for a longer period. Social Media resulted as a great help during this situation. Many people shared valuable information through various social networking sites during the disaster after situations. Importantly, huge numbers of social networking sites members sent their money for the affected areas as their part of the help through the social media. Social media proved as a best platform for gathering charity. (Source - http://www.reviewcrushers.com/2011/06/positive-aspects-of-social-media/)

Social media is now even used for political figures to hold campaigns etc. Whatever they post causes the voters to rethink on who they want to cast their vote for. Even such important events make use of social media now.

My Thoughts on Social Media

I feel that Social Media affects us negatively. It might be more convenient and accessible to talk to our our friends and family who are overseas (Facebook), however we also use it to communicate with people who we almost see every single day. No one really meets a person face to face to have a nice chit-chat, it is always done online (Skype). This reduces the personal touch of having to see the person and  having a great time together. How many of us actually see children playing in the playgrounds nowadays? Most of them are glued to their ipads and iphones or online games. Our world has turned very virtual and we have forgotten that there is a real world out there. People we chat on Facebook for hours, we do not even talk to them in real life. Not only does it worsen our social skills, it will also affect our health. Sitting with a laptop in you hand for 5 hours, staring at the screen, worsens our eyesight. Our necks hurt and might also cause problems such as spondylosis. Our fitness decreases and eventually we turn unhealthy and lethargic. Therefore, I feel that Social Media should be used to a certain level, or else it would be very damaging to our body and to our brain.
